The State House votes that reach Horry County
The General Assembly has 124 House members and 46 senators, and its regular session starts on the second Tuesday in January. A lot of what people blame on County Council is actually decided here: criminal law, including DUI penalties, the limits on what counties can tax, and the structure of local law enforcement.
Every bill has a number, a sponsor list, a committee history and a text you can read on the Legislature's website. We link all four. When a bill affects Horry County directly, we say which part of the county, which office has to carry it out and when it takes effect.
